It appears the WhiteHouse is trying to claim they are the victim of a conspiracy when they themselves use anonymous sources to give credibility to their actions.

I wonder if it's more likely that Newsweek's source was found by the US government and threatened to rebuke his statement. The US denied Abu Ghraib until the pictures came out. I would also note Newsweek's argument, that there have been many reports about this in the past by other news outlets.

On top of all of this, remember a top EU Human Rights group has condemned the actions of the US in Guantanamo Bay. Whether this is true or not, we know violations are occurring.

I recall that in Abu Ghraib there was a report of a prisoner being forced to eat Pork. If they commit these crimes in their occupied countries why would they not do it in the relative secrecry of Guantanamo bay?
